“Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul” by Jeff Kinney

Yay!! No School !

The Long Haul

This is the ninth book about Greg Heffley (the Wimpy Kid) of the title. Greg is looking forward to a long summer doing nothing but watching TV and playing video games. Unfortunately for Greg, his mother has other ideas. She thinks a road trip would be a good idea, she read about it in a magazine, and imagines it would be conducive to family bonding.

Mom announces the Road Trip

Mom doesn’t even let poor Greg and Rodrick  take any electronics on the trip. The trip isn’t as much fun as Mom anticipates, the accommodation on the road is substandard to say the least. Greg has enough problems relating to his brothers Manny and Rodrick, when he has a whole house to escape in, but in the confines of a family car, there is no escape.

If you are familiar with the series, it is the same format, the notebook style font interspersed with simple cartoon pictures. There is a lot of humour, though some of it is quite juvenile. One of my favourite sequences is when dad tries to take an important phone call from work and wants the car’s occupants to be quiet. He should know better than to use a phone while driving, especially with his barely functional family.

The same style as other books in the series

This is one of the better books in the series.

My rating : 4 out of 5

About jimholroyd365

Hi, my name is Jim, I am an Englishman living in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi. I started this blog to share my interests, my photos and to make sense of my world. I take a lot of photographs of various subjects, some of which I intend to share here. I collect diecast cars and get the same thrill at 50 as I did when I was 8, when I find a car I'm searching for, Don't worry, I have a separate blog for this hobby. Please feel free to comment and ask questions on what I blog. I am quite new to this blogging, I was inspired by reading a book, which began as a blog of a London Ambulance Driver: "Blood, Sweat and Tea". I hope my blog will be entertaining and amusing, I did try stand up comedy in the UK and had seven gigs before I left to teach English in Georgia. I love reading and so the blog will include book reviews of books as I finish them.I don't know about which direction this blog will go, I am a great believer in serendipity...let the journey begin...
